iCalendar Coming to DJEP

We've spent that past month working on a very exciting new feature: iCalendars. This brand new functionality will allow you synchronize your calendar (including events and appointments) with your calendering application of choice:

  • Microsoft Outlook
  • Apple iContact
  • Mozilla Sunbird
  • Google Calendars
  • Other popular iCalendar enabled applications

The neat part about synchronizing with these applications is that you will now be able to view your DJEP schedule using your:

  • iPhone
  • Blackberry
  • Windows Mobile Phone
  • SmartPhone

You will be able to create custom iCalendars for yourself and your employees. You can select which events to export based on event status, and which fields you want to include. You will have total control of the information that is exported.

We want to give you a sneak peak of this new feature. Starting today, you will be able to access the iCalendar in its Beta form.

To set up your iCalendars go to Reports -> Calendars -> iCalendar

Remember, this feature is still being tested. Be sure to let us know if you find any bugs.

Wedding Traditions: The Cake

The wedding cake has been part of the marriage ceremony since medievel times. Originally, they were made of wheat, a symbol of strength and prosperity.

These wheat Loaves of bread were thrown at the bride or broken over her head: a sign of good fortune and a blessing for long life and many children. The guests would try to obtain a crumb for themselves when the break was broken. They too believed they would share in the good fortune and prosperity of the bride and groom.

In the 17th century, wedding cakes became more elaborate with the help of an unknown French chef. The wedding cake was frosted in lard to keep it from drying out. Just before serving the cake, the lard was scraped off. Later, sugar was added to improve the taste of the lard and allowed the lard to be left on the wedding cake as a decorative icing.

Today, the cutting of the wedding cake is symbolically the first task that bride and groom perform jointly as husband and wife. After the cake cutting ceremony, the couple feeds one other from the first slice. This provides another lovely piece of symbolism, the mutual commitment of bride and groom to provide for one another.
